People are struggling to understand what they should do when they feel like they have been left behind by the people they love.
But some people say they feel powerless to help and that they don’t have the time or the space to cope with their feelings.
As many as 50 per cent of suicide attempts are self-harm, according to research published by the University of Michigan.
So what should we do?
The American Psychological Association has a guideline for how people should cope with suicidal thoughts, feelings and behaviour.
Here are some things you can do: Recognise the possibility that your thoughts are making you suicidal.
If you can’t see how you are causing yourself harm, then you should seek help.
